Occupation*He was a famer. The 1851 census lists him farming at Widdrington.1 
Birth*circa 1789, (Research Note: There are several possible references to the birth of a John Mather around 1790. An IGI record lists birth 14/8/1789. John Cottsworth Mather, Presbyterian, Branton, Northumberland, England. Parents, Robert Mather & Margaret. A mention in the Longframlington URC registers gives John Mather bap 28/1/1787 at Longframlington, parents Thomas Mather and Nanny. Neither of these are near Linton, Widdrington, John's birthplace in the 1851 census. Another IGI reference is for a Male Christening: 24 JUN 1788 Clayport Or Green Batt Meeting House-Church Of Scoalnwickr Presby, Alnwick. Again nothing conclusive can be deduced)1,2
