Thomas was born in Bamburgh, and lived most of his life in north Northumberland. His son Thomas was born in Lanchester, Co. Durham, but that may have been on a visit (family?). Certainly in 1901 he was at Belford, Northumberland. His widow was living in Birtley in 1911, and his death is registered at Chester Le Street in 1908, so it looks as though he moved to Birtley sometime after 1901.
Researcher's Note: Vera Johnson remembers her father in law, Arthur Albert Johnson having two daughters May & Annie, both older than their brother. These do not appear in any census as Annie or May, but Thomas has two daughters Jane A born c 1886, and Elizabeth M born c 1894. I Have assumed these are Jane Ann and Elizabeth May.
In the 1881 census he is said to be a labourer. In later census he is a Slater and later a Master Slater and Plasterer.^5,6,2
