Vera Johnson said that, after his wife Isabella died, he lived with daughter Elsie for a while. He left Elsie's for a while, leaving his furniture. He then sent for his TV. His son-in-law Phil would not let the TV go until all the furniture was taken. It was eventually sold by his son Arthur. He was thought to have gone to live in a caravan at Seahouses. He is said to have bought a car with a dud cheque. The Police rang up Arthur & Elsie. He came back to Gladstone Terrace in about Jan/Feb 1959. He walked out of the house in October 1959 and was never seen again. There is also the possibility that he lived at Brooms, near Beamish. His later whereabouts and death have never ben established.³
