Anthony Coxon

M, #498, b. circa 1700, d. January 1780
| | |
| Note - Research | There is an open question as to whether the link from William of Overgras to Anthony & Jane of Redesdale is valid. It calls for a 2 year error in DOD on gravestone, not unusual but not rock solid. Two of his sons were called William and George, the same names as possible fathers brothers. But if he was the son of Anthony then he has chosen not to call any of his sons after his father. For the time being I have chosen to assume the link is valid, until proven otherwise., Principal=William Coxon2 |
| Note - Research* | Anthony is the earliest Coxon ancestor traced with some certainty, but see the research notes for William Coxon which explains a possible question between Anthony of Redesdale and William of Overgrass. The Coxon's lived at Woolaw, a farm some 5 miles west of Otterburn, from at least the begining of the 16th century until the end of the 18th century. There is considerable evidence of the Coxons at Woolaw over the generations, but little hard evidence to show which son suceeded which father. For a fuller discussion see my document "The Coxons of Woolaw". See also the manuscripts of W Percy Hedley, cited here, author of "Northumbrian Families", and also the book "The story of Redesdale" by Beryl Charlton (also cited) which appears to draw heavily on the work of W Percy Hedley.3,1,4,5 |

| Note - Historical | 1755, Woollaw, Elsdon, England, , A lease of dwelling house & land belonging to Robert Anderson in High Rochester in 1755 mentions one "Anthony Coxon, gentleman of Moolaw". Allowing for miss recording of Moolaw for Woolaw, this seems to refer to our Anthony.8 |
